Invest in Group Process

While reading about building good relationships is helpful, actively participating in training offers a deeper, more lasting experience. The opportunities listed below can help nonprofit staff members and volunteers to improve and enhance their organizations by improving relationships. Check them out.

The ASAE has held their CEO Symposium events for many years. At these training opportunities, association executive directors and their board presidents are treated to a two-day intensive workshop. There they learn about their roles as nonprofit leaders, about each other, and build a foundation for their partnership that will carry them through the president’s term in office. Held a few times per year, the next one is scheduled for November in Maryland.

Open to executive directors and multiple board members, this workshop helps nonprofit leadership teams build trust and align on effective governance. This event is an opportunity to restart and recharge an organization’s leadership team.

This training looks at group process from a completely different perspective. It starts with an examination of the organization’s current volunteers, moves into recruiting outside of the nonprofit’s “comfort zone,” and concludes with engagement through corporate volunteering. As a bonus, consider having several team members take this course and meet between sessions to discuss what they learned and how to apply it to your organization.

Take few minutes to ask yourself: Is your team are working together as well as it could? Are your discussions as productive as they could be? How do you handle disagreement? The right training can strengthen your team’s collaboration and prepare you to tackle whatever challenges come next.
